BASF Expands its Capacity for Highly Reactive Polyisobutenes
Effective 1 January 2002, the BASF facility in Antwerpen, Belgium, increased its annual capacity for highly reactive polyisobutenes from 55 kt/ yr to 70 kt/yr. This expansion in capacity serves to meet the increased demands from our customers. Highly reactive polyisobutenes are an important ingredient in the manufacture of additives for fuels and lubricants. In addition, they are increasingly being used in the production of sealants and adhesives.
The plant in Antwerpen began its production at the end of 1994 and produces highly reactive polyisobutenes in the molecular weight range between of 500 to 2300. In addition to this plant, BASF operates another production facility with a capacity of 15 kt/yr at its location in Ludwigshafen.
