Clariant Rewarded for Innovation

22-May-2002

Clariant was rewarded for innovation and clearly demonstrated its technical prowess. Clariant's Textile, Leather & paper chemicals division won two prestigious awards from the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) in the UK. Competing with entries from throughout the world, Clariant UK won two of the SDC 2001 Innovation Awards in recognition of new developments in products and applications.

The "colour in research" award was presented to the Paper business unit for Leucophor® FTS liquid, a new cationic product that improves the optical brightness of paper. Leucophor FTS liquid is already being successfully used in specialised paper applications, including the production of high quality ink jet papers.

The Textile business unit, together with Marks & Spencer Plc, won the "colour in process" award for Diresul® sulphur dyestuffs, which give improved colourfastness to nylon and lycra knits. This development represents the results of extensive laboratory, small scale and bulk trial investigations with UK dyehouses and close consultation with Marks & Spencer technicians and selectors. This new technology is now being used on a regular basis for the bulk production of lingerie and swimwear.

The SDC is a professional organisation dedicated to advancing the science of colour and colour technology.

Clariant CEO Reinhard Handte commented on the awards: "We firmly believe that Clariant must go all out to translate its employees' knowledge into new products and production processes, applications and services. Fine and specialty chemicals require research if our customers are to enjoy the full benefits of the added value they bring. We are pushing this development because it gives us the possibility to run in the forefront of our industry."
