Arkema invests in development of lithium-sulfur batteries

24-Jan-2019 - United Kingdom

Arkema works alongside battery manufacturers, and contributes to optimizing battery performance thanks to its materials and innovative solutions. Arkema’s acquisition of a stake in Oxis Energy is consistent with this strategic ambition and this commitment to anticipating the technologies of tomorrow’s batteries for the transportation market.

Arkema, which has been cooperating with OXIS Energy since 2012, consolidates its partnership with this company, and has engaged in a new capital-raising operation.

Accordingly, the Group will continue to develop “customized” solutions thanks to its expertise in fluorochemicals involving new electrolyte salts (LI-FSI and LI-TDI), and thanks to its carbon nanotubes and its high added value technical polymers: all of these innovative solutions indeed play a role in improving the lifetime and the energy density of lithium-sulfur batteries.

This investment aims to market and mass-produce, in the medium term, rechargeable lithium-sulfur batteries for the transportation market.
