Degussa takes over a Chinese persulphate maker

Now the world's biggest supplier of persulphates

Oktober 10, 2002 - Degussa AG, Dusseldorf, has taken over 70% of Shanghai AJ Reagents Co. Ltd., Shanghai, the largest Chinese maker of persulphates. The old majority shareholder was the Shanghai AJ Corporation, Shanghai, a greatly diversified financial holding company quoted on the stock exchange. The new company with its 120 staff and anticipated annual turnover of about EUR 10 million will be called the Degussa-AJ (Shanghai) Initiators Co., Ltd.. On taking over a majority stake in Shanghai AJ Reagents Degussa becomes the world's largest persulphates maker. With its production plant in Pullach near Munich, they were already Europe's market leader in this field with a turnover in this product group of EUR 30 million. Persulphates are mainly used as reaction initiators in the plastics industry. Degussa is the only company supplying a complete range worldwide of polymerisation initiators with its organic peroxides and persulphates. The takeover is part of Degussa's strategy of dynamically expanding its business in the Asian growth region and particularly in China. The world's biggest maker of specialised chemicals has been producing in China since 1988. Degussa intends to greatly increase the Asian portion of group turnover in the medium term from its current 12%.
