Dell Ventures Managing Director Tom Meredith Joins Eastman e-Business Advisory Board

KINGSPORT, Tenn. Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) announced the appointment of a new member to its e-business Board of Advisors. Thomas J. Meredith, managing director of Dell Ventures, Dell Computer Corporation’s strategic investment arm, joined the advisory board on Oct. 1, 2000.

The e-business Board of Advisors provides guidance for the successful development and execution of Eastman’s e-business strategies and business designs. They also are charged with guiding the company in building relationships that enable Eastman to remain an industry leader in e-business.

"Tom has played key roles in developing and building e-Business capabilities and the finance strategies to support them at leading technology companies. He brings more than twenty years of very successful execution as well as superior business and financial experience," said Roger Mowen, vice president of CustomerFirst and Chief Information Officer at Eastman.

Prior to joining Dell in 1992, Meredith was vice president and treasurer for Sun Microsystems, Inc. His background includes serving as Dell’s chief financial officer, managing treasury operations at Sun, and director of tax research and planning for Castle and Cooke, Inc. In September 1998, CFO Magazine and Arthur Andersen named Meredith as the CFO Excellence award winner for Risk Management and Performance Measurement.

Meredith received his master’s of law degree in taxation from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; a Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University of Law, Pittsburgh, Penn.; and a bachelor’s degree in political science from St. Francis College, Loretto, Penn.

In addition to Meredith, the five-member board includes:

Larry Downes, an e-business consultant and co-author of Unleashing the Killer App: Digital Strategies for Market Dominance. Heidi Mason, managing director of the Bell-Mason Group. Adrian Slywotsky, vice-president and member of the Board of Directors of Mercer Management Consulting, Inc. and author of Value Migration, Profit Zone and Profit Patterns. Earnest W. Deavenport, Jr., chairman and CEO of Eastman Chemical Company.
