Ashland Specialty Chemical names 3M? exclusive U.S. Distributor of PLIOGRIP® Structural

28-Oct-2000

Dublin, Ohio (USA) -- The Specialty polymers and adhesives (SP&A) Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company recently granted 3M? Automotive Aftermarket Division exclusive rights to distribute Ashland?s PLIOGRIP® structural adhesives to the heavy-truck repair market in the United States, combining Ashland?s advanced product technology with 3M?s strong sales and distribution system.

The long-term agreement, implemented over the summer, also allows 3M to carry the same Ashland products in Canada and Latin America on a non-exclusive basis.

3M is offering PLIOGRIP structural adhesives, approved by virtually every major truck original- equipment manufacturer in North America, as part of 3M?s Automix? Truck Line of adhesives. PLIOGRIP structural adhesives are used to bond thermoset composites, open-molded and pultruded fiberglass-reinforced plastics, selected thermoplastic alloys and treated metals. All of the new 3M product line meets the demanding vibration and road-stress requirements of the truck collision-repair industry.

"This agreement makes it easy for any heavy-truck repair shop to obtain Ashland products, as well as 3M?s local, expert technical support. That means shops will be able to repair composite or plastic parts on trucks better and faster, using the same recognizable green material the factory uses -- PLIOGRIP structural adhesives -- which cure quickly at room temperature, sand and paint well, and have long shelf stability," said Robert A. Hall, SP&A?s global distribution manager for PLIOGRIP.

Paul DeNuccio, marketing director, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division, said, "We are excited about the opportunity that this partnership represents. Ashland has a very strong presence at heavy-truck OEMs, while 3M is recognized in the aftermarket for its quality products, supported by a strong sales and distribution network. We believe that this is a winning combination for the industry."

PLIOGRIP structural adhesives are two-component urethane adhesive systems specifically formulated for the rigorous performance properties required by heavy-truck original-equipment manufacturers. PLIOGRIP structural adhesives, supplied as resin and curative/hardener, chemically cure at ambient or elevated temperatures when accelerated by various energy forms.
