Borealis and Grace form catalyst partnership

29-Jul-2003
Borealis and W. R. Grace & Co have reached an agreement whereby Grace will acquire Borealis' catalyst production units in Stenungsund, Sweden and manufacturing equipment for catalysts and carriers in Porvoo, Finland. "Borealis will continue to focus on the development of advanced catalysts for high performance polyolefins. This alliance with Grace will allow us to benefit from Grace's broad manufacturing experience of catalysts and catalyst supports," said Johan von Knorring, Vice President PO Research & Technology of Borealis. "Borealis is highly regarded for its advanced catalyst systems," said Anthony J. Dondero, Vice President and General Manager, Polyolefin Catalysts, Grace Davison. "This partnership further expands Grace Davison's polyolefin catalysts business into high-growth technology and process market segments for these catalysts and carriers." Borealis will remain the owner of the proprietary catalyst technologies and will continue to develop catalysts as a key part of its technology platform. Borealis will also remain responsible for the sales of its catalysts and technical service and manufacturing support to its licensees. The agreement enables Grace to produce, market and sell certain Borealis proprietary catalysts on a global basis. The acquisition will be integrated into Grace's existing global polyolefin catalyst business.
