WACKER Signs Research Partnership with Top Arabian University

26-Feb-2004

The Munich-based WACKER Group and the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates recently signed a research partnership providing closer collaboration in the testing and application of innovative building materials. The objective is to establish binding quality and processing standards for the regional construction industry.

The venture focuses on redispersible powders for high-quality dry mortar mixes. "In the Gulf climate, the right mortar composition is vital," says Patrick de Wolf, head of the WACKER Technical Center in Dubai. "As a leading global supplier of redispersible powders, we can provide invaluable information on how to correctly formulate and process dry-mortar systems."

The objective is to devise binding standards for the construction industry in collaboration with the Institute of Materials Systems (IMS) of the American University of Sharjah, which studies the use of new products and technologies in the construction sector. "By entering into this partnership, we are giving support to independent research institutes, such as the IMS, whose task is to improve product quality and building-materials processing and to adapt these to regional requirements," he adds.

Aside from product research, WACKER intends to become more involved in training. In the future, this will enable students to participate in laboratory and applied-technology internships as part of an exchange program. "This way, we make a major contribution to training qualified personnel in the region," continues de Wolf.
