Dow to Strengthen Its Extruded Polystyrene Insulation Manufacturing Base

02-Jul-2004

The Dow Chemical Company announced it will strengthen its North American manufacturing base for extruded polystyrene insulation in Texas and the Pacific Northwest. This activity may utilize manufacturing equipment acquired in late 2003 and will further enhance manufacturing capabilities to meet market needs.

The Dow Chemical Company, a leading global supplier of chemical, plastic and agricultural products and services pioneered STYROFOAM* extruded polystyrene insulation over 50 years ago, revolutionizing insulation science. Today, Dow Building & Construction offers a full line of building science insulation solutions for residential and commercial buildings that includes STYROFOAM extruded polystyrene insulation, polyisocyanurate insulation, integrated concrete systems and housewrap.

Dow is committed to providing its customers with the right insulation solution and delivering it in the most cost-effective and timely manner. STYROFOAM extruded polystyrene and polyisocyanurate insulation are currently manufactured at 14 Dow facilities across North America. According to Kostas Katsoglou, business vice president, Building & Construction, "expanding our manufacturing base demonstrates our long-term commitment to the marketplace and to our customers, ensuring secure supply and supporting local Dow communities in which the plants reside."

The facilities will also help construction industry professionals meet the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System(R) requirement, a U.S. Green Building Council initiative. LEED requires that all building materials and products be manufactured regionally within a 500-mile radius.
