Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) today announced that Eastapak Aqua polymers have been NSF International certified for use in producing returnable/reuseable containers, according to the American National Standards Institute/NSF 51.

"These polymers meet the stringent quality and water packaging standards of major international water companies and regulatory associations," said Jim Weaver, business market manager for water packaging. "NSF 51 certification will help Eastapak Aqua polymers penetrate the home and office delivery market where the bottles are reused numerous times."

Eastapak Aqua polymers find use in the popular water bottles sold in retail stores and vending machines as well as the 5-gallon containers for home and office delivery. Shelf testing has shown that water containers produced from Eastapak Aqua polymers contribute virtually no detectable taste.

"We submitted the polymers for NSF certification at our customers' request," said Weaver. "The NSF mark is easily recognized, and this certification supports the industry in their conversion from glass and other plastics to Eastapak Aqua polymers."

An independent, nonprofit corporation, NSF International ensures that consistent standards for environmental and public health safety are practiced. NSF Standard 51 establishes minimum public health and sanitation requirements for plastic materials used in food packaging.
