Bayer: First business transaction using Elemica

eCommerce platform to grow on importance

30-Aug-2001

Leverkusen – Bayer today concluded the first chemical business transactions using the global eCommerce marketplace Elemica. In this ChemXML-based electronic dialog all essential stages of the seller-purchaser interchange are fully automated. Monochlorobenzene and formic acid were traded as part of one-year contracts worth Euro 2.3 million.

Over the past few months, the health care and chemicals group Bayer has built up a flexible eCommerce architecture based on the XML data format which allows standardized and automatic transactions. "In future we will use Elemica to handle a significant part of our one billion Euro business in basic and fine chemicals," says Dr. Martin Wienkenhoever, General Manager of Bayer's Basic and Fine Chemicals Business Group.
