Accolades for Sasol's sustainability reporting

13-Jun-2005
Sasol is the joint-winner of the prestigious Best sustainability Report award of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for the second year in a row, ahead of an array of top South African companies, including banking and Investment, petroleum, mining and telecommunication groups. This latest award follows within weeks of Sasol being ranked among the top five of 22 high environmental impact companies by the JSE Security Exchange in its Socially Responsible Investment Index (SRI). This was in recognition of the group having integrated the principles of sustainability and socially responsible investment reporting into business practices. According to ACCA, sustainability reporting plays a vital role in improving not just communication, but also credibility and trust between organisations and their stakeholders. To achieve trust companies must identify and explain the link between corporate social responsibility activities and their operational, financial and strategic decision-making. The risk for businesses which fail to tackle the tough questions is that their sustainability reports will lack the credibility needed to be considered as high-level, serious business documents and will instead be perceived as marketing brochures.
