McNeil Acquires St. Joseph® Business from Schering-Plough Healthcare Products

20-Dec-2000

McNeil Consumer Healthcare, the marketer of TYLENOL®, today announced that it has acquired the St. Joseph business, best known for its orange-flavored aspirin.

McNeil purchased the 109-year old St. Joseph® brand from Schering-Plough HealthCare Products. The St. Joseph® line currently consists of 81mg adult regimen aspirin. Terms and conditions of the sale were not disclosed.

The acquisition marks the first move into the cardio-protective aspirin market by McNeil, the world leader in over-the-counter analgesics.

McNeil said St. Joseph is an excellent strategic fit with its portfolio, which includes the TYLENOL® and MOTRIN® franchises. The company cited the benefit of low-strength aspirin for consumers who need aspirin for cardiac disease therapy.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare is a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies and is headquartered in Fort Washington, PA. Johnson & Johnson is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly based manufacturer of health care products.
