BP Cleans Up With Eight New Solar Projects

BP is set to supply solar technology to eight of the 23 recently announced Department of Trade and Industry’s solar house roof projects. When complete, the projects will result in the installation of over 200 kilowatts of solar power on homes from Belfast, to the Scottish Borders to Havant, near Portsmouth The eight projects are: 17 Berwickshire Housing Association properties at four sites at Ayton and Coldstream in the Scottish Borders 10 ‘Sun in a box’ roofing systems at flats owned by Wansbeck District Council in Northumberland BP’s ‘Sun in a box’ systems at a project on the Newcastle Great Park Five properties in a sustainable community project at Hockerton in Nottinghamshire 24 Northern Ireland Housing Executive flats in Belfast, in what will be the largest flat-roof project in the UK 25 houses in Omagh as part of the Killybrack Energy Programme The refurbishment of a Grade II listed building in Clapham, London Nine new-build houses at Havant, near Portsmouth BP also manufactures modules for Redland plc who are involved in two further projects. "We are particularly pleased that we will be involved in such a diverse set of projects," said Mike Pitcher, BP Solar’s Northern European Manager. ‘These projects will see the first installation of solar panels in Northern Ireland, and once again demonstrate that solar electricity can be generated in the UK. The projects involve our own solar specialists group working with installers and our distributors across the UK.’ BP is the largest supplier of solar technology in the UK with over two megawatts already installed, representing over 70% of the market. This announcement follows the recent opening of the Earth Centre Solar Canopy where BP is providing 105 kilowatts of solar technology, the largest single installation of solar power in the UK.
