BP is set to supply solar technology to eight of the 23 recently announced
Department of Trade and Industry’s solar house roof projects. When complete, the
projects will result in the installation of over 200 kilowatts of
solar power on homes
from Belfast, to the Scottish Borders to Havant, near Portsmouth
The eight projects are:
17 Berwickshire Housing Association properties at four sites at Ayton and
Coldstream in the Scottish Borders
10 ‘Sun in a box’ roofing systems at flats owned by Wansbeck District Council
in Northumberland
BP’s ‘Sun in a box’ systems at a project on the Newcastle Great Park
Five properties in a sustainable community project at Hockerton in
Nottinghamshire
24 Northern
Ireland Housing Executive flats in Belfast, in what will be the
largest flat-roof project in the UK
25 houses in Omagh as part of the Killybrack
Energy Programme
The refurbishment of a Grade II listed building in Clapham, London
Nine new-build houses at Havant, near Portsmouth
BP also manufactures modules for Redland plc who are involved in two further
projects.
"We are particularly pleased that we will be involved in such a diverse set of
projects," said Mike Pitcher, BP Solar’s Northern European Manager. ‘These projects
will see the first installation of
solar panels in Northern
Ireland, and once again
demonstrate that solar
electricity can be generated in the UK. The projects involve
our own solar specialists group working with installers and our distributors across the
UK.’
BP is the largest supplier of solar technology in the UK with over two megawatts
already installed, representing over 70% of the market. This announcement follows
the recent opening of the Earth Centre Solar Canopy where BP is providing 105
kilowatts of solar technology, the largest single installation of
solar power in the UK.
