Air Liquide: New H2 Plant for REPSOL Spain

29-Nov-2001

The Air Liquide Group has just announced that it will build a hydrogen plant to supply a refinery owned by the Spanish petrochemical group Repsol YPF in Puertollano, 200km from Madrid (Spain). Repsol YPF has confirmed that it has chosen Air Liquide to supply all of its new hydrogen needs at the Puertollano facility, which is one of Spain's largest refineries.

This agreement constitutes a further step in the partnership and trust that has grown between Repsol YPF and Air Liquide, which already supplies Repsol YPF facilities in Spain and South America.

To be designed, built and operated by Air Liquide, the new hydrogen plant will produce 4.3 tons of hydrogen per hour and 45 tons of steam per hour. Construction work is scheduled to begin in mid 2002 and production in late 2003. In addition to supplying the Puertollano refinery, the plant will be able to produce additional hydrogen and carbon dioxide and thus enable Air Liquide to better serve its industrial customers in Spain.

This project will require an investment of about 45 million euros.
