08-Feb-2002

Dublin, Ohio (USA) ? Ashland Distribution Company?s General polymers Division has commenced operations at a new $7 million, 125,000-square-foot regional distribution center in Anderson, S.C. The facility will receive bulk thermoplastic materials ? primarily by rail ? and will package and distribute plastic resin pellets to General Polymers (GP) customers throughout the Southeast region.

Ashland acquired the 43-acre site and developed the new facility to enhance its inventory management and customer service capabilities for plastics customers, as well as provide an infrastructure for the potential expansion needs of its other distribution businesses.

?This investment is consistent with our commitment to meeting our customers? needs for efficient, reliable service. GP believes the combination of modern facilities and information systems coupled with service-passionate GP representatives will deliver the Ashland ?advantage? to our customers,? said Dave Bening, vice president and general manager of General Polymers. ?In addition, the work processes at our Anderson distribution center are designed to meet the ISO 9000 quality standard for customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.?

With the grand opening, Ashland again extended its thanks to the Anderson County Economic Development Office and other local and state government officials for their support of the development project. Roebuck Builders Inc. of Roebuck, S.C., was the general contractor for the project.
