Celanese Appoints New President of Chemicals
Celanese AG has announced the appointment of Lyndon Cole as President of Celanese Chemicals effective March 11, 2002.
In this capacity, Cole will have overall operating responsibility for the global chemicals business. He will report to David Weidman, Celanese Chief Operating Officer.
Commenting on the appointment, Weidman said: "Lyndon brings to Celanese a strong commercial mindset and hands-on experience in helping to transform companies into high performing organizations. Lyndon's insight into global best practices, combined with a strong chemical industry background, will further enhance Celanese's global business position, enabling the company to capitalize fully on its strengths and competencies as a leading global chemicals company."
Cole joins Celanese from United Kingdom-based Elementis PLC, where he was CEO of this global specialty chemicals company. Prior to joining Elementis, Cole was General Manager-Global Structured Products for GE Plastics and previously held general management and commercial positions with GE Plastics, Dow Chemical Europe and ICI.
A native of South Wales, U.K., Cole received B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Microbiology in 1975 and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1978, all from Reading University in the UK.
Cole will be based at the Celanese Chemicals headquarters in Dallas.
