Air Liquide to build a new oxygen plant for Sasol
3/19/2002 Air Liquide and Sasol have signed a contract which entrusts Air Liquide with the turnkey supply of a new air separation plant for Sasol?s petrochemical site of Secunda, 170 kilometers from Johannesburg. The new plant, scheduled for start up end 2003, will produce 3,550 tons per day of gaseous and liquid oxygen which will make it the world's largest oxygen plant. Once this new plant is on line, Secunda should be the largest oxygen-production site for one single customer, with a capacity exceeding 38,500 tons per day. Since 1980, Air Liquide has supplied the Secunda facility with 14 oxygen units, each with a capacity of 2,500 tons per day. Commenting on this contract, François Darchis, Vice President Worldwide Engineering, has declared : "This 15th unit that we will build for Sasol demonstrates Air Liquide's capacity to accompany its large industry customers worldwide. For our Engineering Division, more specifically in charge of this major project, it is both an honor and a recognition of their expertise. This contract is a confirmation of Air Liquide's leading position in the design and construction of large air separation equipments "
