The European Patent Office has granted LANXESS AG a patent for its product Baynox liquid. The antioxidant concentrate from the specialty chemicals group ensures the long-term stability of the environmentally friendly fuel biodiesel. LANXESS expects the proportion of sales in this area of the Basic chemicals Business Unit’s operations to increase significantly.
According to the company, Baynox can be used without reservation to enhance the shelf life of pure biodiesel and the biodiesel that is added (B5) to mineral diesel in line with statutory requirements. The product, which has been awarded the “no harm” certificate by the Biodiesel Quality Management Association e.V. (AGQM), is tolerated well by car engines. Its active ingredient BHT (butylhydroxytoluene) does not contain sulfur or nitrogen and combusts completely without leaving residues.
