Bayer to increase production capacities for polyurethane dispersions
EUR 5 million for expansion of Dormagen facility
Leverkusen ? In response to increasing market demand, Bayer is making further investment to expand facilities for the production of polyurethane (PUR) dispersions. At the company's site in Dormagen, Germany, capacities will be increased from 5,000 tons to 40,000 tons. This expansion will supplement the manufacturing facility that came on stream in 2000 at New Martinsville in the United States.
The aqueous PUR dispersions are used in a broad range of applica-tions: adhesives; coatings; textile and leather coatings and finishes; and glass fiber sizes. In many cases, PUR dispersions represent a fully equivalent substitute for solventborne products.
Examples of applications include the bonding of sports shoe soles, film lamination in furniture manufacture, the coating of furniture and parquet flooring, the coating of plastic components and vehicles, and the bonding of components in car passenger compartments.
Thanks to state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, the solvent-free dispersions can be produced in high quality and conforming to the narrowest of specifications.
