04-Oct-2002

October 3, 2002 - Crompton Corporation's Petroleum additives business plans to expand production capacity for its Naugalube alkylated diphenylamine antioxidant product line at its manufacturing facility in Latina, Italy. This capacity increase is expected to come on line in the fourth quarter 2002.

"Aminic antioxidants represent one of the fastest growing product lines in the Petroleum Additives components portfolio, driven primarily by changes in motor oil specifications by the global automotive industry," said Dr. Sean P. O'Connor, vice president of Crompton Petroleum Additives. "This expansion will help us to successfully meet growing demand for the product in Europe, while also providing the flexibility of serving global customer requirements on a timely basis -- now and well into the future. The fact that we are backward integrated in DPA is a competitive strength that reinforces our expertise in providing unsurpassed product quality and service to our customers, " he said.

Crompton's Latina, Italy alkylated diphenylamine production facility produces aminic antioxidants like Naugalube® 438L. Naugalube 438L is a liquid nonylated diphenylamine antioxidant for use in petroleum-based and synthetic lubricants. It provides good protection against degradation due to heat and oxygen, and has free radical scavenging ability over a wide range of recommended operating temperatures from 100°C to 250°C. As a liquid, it allows for easy handling and blending. Naugalube 438L is recommended for use in passenger car engine oils; automatic transmission fluids; gear, hydraulic and turbine oils; and greases.
