BP has chosen
Biesterfeld Plastic Europe to be the single European distributor for its
polymers, including packaging,
logistics and distribution of the polymers. The project will include distribution of BP's
polystyrene,
polypropylene and
polyethylene.
The move will streamline and simplify the distribution of BP's polymers to customers across continental Europe, enabling the company to more readily manage and improve the service offered to customers. The value of the contract is not being disclosed.
"Our agreement with Biesterfeld will ensure that our customers will benefit from a flexible, first class service that matches our ambition to be the first choice for polymer customers in Europe," said Ian Wylie, BP's Polymers Commercial Director.
"Through the
mergers and significant growth that our business has seen in Europe in the past four years BP inherited a large and extremely diverse set of polymer distribution channels in different countries. This single European agreement will now offer customers clarity and consistency, wherever on the continent they are buying BP polymers."
Biesterfeld has already begun to work on developing the new distribution channel and over the coming year will work with BP and existing distributors to implement the agreement and transfer BP's polymers to Biesterfeld.
BP expects the new agreement to be phased in across Europe during 2003. BP and Biesterfeld are committed to ensuring there will be no disruption to customers' service during the transition to the new channel.
The agreement with Biesterfeld does not include UK, Republic of
Ireland or Scandinavia.
