Aventis Pharmaceuticals Acquires MyDoc Online Inc.

PARSIPPANY, NJ, October 12, 2000 - Aventis Pharmaceuticals, the U.S. pharmaceutical business of Aventis Pharma AG, announced today the acquisition of Austin, Texas-based MyDoc Online Inc. MyDoc Online is developing an online suite of applications intended to support physician offices with the critical core functions of scheduling appointments, managing patient questions, processing authorizations, and providing targeted health information. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition is seen as a major step in the global e-business strategy of Aventis Pharma. "When we formed Aventis in December of last year, we set a goal to be a leader in responding to the opportunities and challenges associated with the Digital Revolution. Today's announcement is the first tangible evidence of our commitment in this arena," said Richard J. Markham, chief executive officer and chairman of the Board of Management of Aventis Pharma. "More importantly, MyDoc Online represents an opportunity to enhance the communication between patients and their own physicians, which we expect to lead to better patient outcomes."

The internet-based platform initially will be piloted in collaboration with Austin Regional Clinic (ARC), a multi-specialty group of more than 140 physicians and health care professionals. With 13 locations throughout the greater Austin area, ARC is one of the largest multispecialty health care groups in Texas.

"At Austin Regional Clinic, we emphasize the importance of a long-term physician/patient relationship and coordination of care," said Dr. Norman H. Chenven, executive vice president of Austin Regional Clinic. "MyDoc Online has the right mix of services that will enable us to replace inefficient forms of communication and spend more time on patient care."
