20-Mar-2001

Air Liquide Santé has signed an agreement with Impregilo S.p.A, a global provider of industrial civil engineering services, to acquire a 50% stake in its subsidiary Omasa S.p.A, which sterilizes and services high-technology equipment.

Omasa S.p.A was established in 1968, is based in Rome, employs 115 people and posted sales of approximately 7.7 million euros in 2000. Omasa S.p.A provides hospitals with a comprehensive sterilization service, for which it has received ISO 9000 certification.

This acquisition will enable Air Liquide Santé to strengthen and round out its hospital services offering with Omasa’s recognized expertise in sterilization technology. Regarding this acquisition, Jean-Marc de Royere, Air Liquide Santé’s president, said:

"Sterilization is a delicate business that involves some complex technologies. It requires a lot of expertise and rigorous discipline. High-quality sterilization is very important to hospitals, since it is critical to patient health. This acquisition will give Air Liquide Santé the additional expertise it needs to further develop its comprehensive offering of services to hospitals."

This acquisition is a further step in Air Liquide Santé’s strategy of developing its offering of hospital hygiene products and services, which includes disinfection and antiseptic products (subsidiaries Anios and Schülke & Mayr) and Exp’air purification service. Air Liquide Santé offers these services to many customers in the healthcare sector, to which it already provides medical gases, equipment and value-creating products and services.
