Münster/Kuala Lumpur. BASF coatings is investing in the coil coatings growth market in South East Asia (ASEAN): A major BASF coil coatings production facility is developing in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The core of the facility is the Pevicoat Technical Service Center developed by BASF: it ensures fast speed, high flexibility and, thus, improved efficiency in the production of coatings used on steel and aluminium coil coating lines. The company is set to step up its activities in the region. Its goal is to set up the first of many leading centers for coil coatings in the ASEAN region.

Flexibility and high speed are the major benefits offered by the Pevicoat system. The service center can match any color and gloss of coating within 24 hours and mix the coating in the exact quantity that is needed. The experience gathered in practice at other sites proves that this will clearly raise the capacity of the coil coating lines and reduce paint stocks. Moreover, paint left overs can be easily recycled.

Pevicoat is equipped with highly sophisticated software that will analyze colour samples fast and precisely to calculate the corresponding mixing formulas. The unit includes a fully equiped dedicated lab where the formulas are checked prior to and during production. Even very small quantities can be produced. The time saved by fast color measurement and paint mixing allows BASF's customers to be more responsive in the market place and to generate efficiency gains in production through increased utilisation and decreased paint inventories.

David Thomas head of the BASF business unit which is responsible for Pevicoat world-wide said: "This is the 10th Pevicoat installation we have made, and as with all the others we are confident that as our customers make use of the facilities they will also derive benefits by achieving more efficient production scheduling and reducing paint inventories. Dr. Nick Brown, head of Business Development Coil Coatings, Asia, Africa, Australia, says: "BASF is dedicated to investing in emerging markets. We see Malaysia as key player in the region and we are looking forward to long and successful business partnerships in the country. The Pevicoat Technical Service Centre will assist BASF's customers satisfy local demand and to win additional export business" The Glenmarie site has been chosen for its potential to expand with future demand.
