Stephen Angel Appointed Executive Vice President of Praxair

Dennis H. Reilley, chairman and chief executive officer of Praxair, Inc. (NYSE:PX), announced today that Stephen F. Angel, formerly general manager of General Electric's Power Equipment Business, has been appointed to the position of executive vice president of Praxair.

Reilley said Angel will be responsible for Praxair's service-based businesses and key growth market segments, including metals technologies, food and beverage and healthcare. In addition, Angel will oversee Praxair's industrial gases operations in Asia and Europe.

"We are very pleased that Steve is joining Praxair's senior leadership team and believe his experience in managing a broad array of businesses, including service-oriented operations, will make a major contribution to achieving our growth and financial goals," Reilley said. "The Praxair team will also benefit from his considerable experience in implementing Six Sigma methodology."

Angel joined GE's Electrical Distribution and Control (ED&C) business in 1979 and after a series of promotions in sales and marketing became general manager of the Switchgear business in 1992. In 1995 he was promoted to general manager of marketing for ED&C and in 1996 became general manager, marketing and sales, for the Transportation Systems business in Erie, Pa. Angel was appointed to his current position in GE's Industrial Systems business in Plainville, Conn. in 1999.

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Angel received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University in 1977. He received a master's degree in business administration from Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. in 1989.
