Chambers appointed senior vice president of APAC

Lamar M. Chambers has been appointed senior vice president of finance/administration of APAC, Inc. effective immediately according to Charles F. Potts, senior vice president of Ashland Inc., and president of APAC, Inc. APAC Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ashland Inc. (NYSE:ASH).

Chambers began his career in the Ashland Inc. internal audit department in 1976. He worked with Ashland Coal, Inc., as a financial analyst before being transferred to APAC's corporate office in 1979. At APAC, he served in various positions of increasing responsibility prior to his promotion to controller in 1987. Chambers returned to corporate headquarters in Ashland, Ky., in 1991 as assistant controller. He was later selected to serve as executive assistant to then Ashland Inc. chairman John R. Hall. In 1996, he was named administrative vice president of finance at Ashland Petroleum. Two years later, Chambers was appointed vice president of finance and controller for Marathon Ashland Petroleum upon the formation of the joint venture. He later transferred to Ashland's corporate headquarters as general auditor where he was also a corporate officer.

Chambers earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting from the State University of West Georgia in 1976. He is a certified public accountant and is a graduate of the Indiana University executive development program.

In his new assignment, Chambers will be directly responsible for strategic planning, information technology, business development, the inspection in-depth oversight program, and monthly profit and loss statements. He will report to Charles F. Potts, senior vice president of Ashland Inc. and president of APAC, Inc. He will relocate to the Atlanta, Ga. area.

APAC, Inc.'s group of construction companies has long ranked as the nation's largest asphalt and concrete paving firm and as a major supplier of construction materials. With operations in 14 southern and midwestern states, APAC's 46 divisions are strategically located to serve communities from Virginia to Kansas and from Florida to Texas.
