PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Licenses LP Oxo Process for Butanol Plant in China
The normal butanol will be primarily consumed captively in internal operations and in the regional market for the production of solvents, paints, coatings and adhesives, while some volume will be sold into the regional merchant market. The additional production will help to reduce China's partial dependence on imported butanol, which this year is likely to exceed 300 KTA. Feedstock propylene will be available from PetroChina Jilin's ethylene plant expansion.
Design work is underway at the London Office of Davy Process Technology, and PetroChina Jilin expect to fast track the project for completion by the end of 2004. This will be the second plant PetroChina Jilin has built employing the LP Oxo Process, the first being a swing plant commissioned in 2000 designed to produce either 2-ethylhexanol or normal butanol. This new capacity will make Jilin China's largest butanol producer.
