14-Nov-2000

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2000)-Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) today announced it has selected M. Holland Company, Northbrook, ILL., for the distribution of Tenite low density polyethylene (LDPE) resin to the U.S. film market. The partnership agreement solidifies a 20-year relationship and supports Eastman's strategic customer focus initiatives.

"This partnership enables Eastman to expand its polyethylene sales interface and provides our film customers with a mechanism to sustain a supply of quality cost-competitive Tenite LDPE products," said Phil Begley, Eastman sales manager for polyethylene in North America.

M. Holland has successfully distributed Eastman Hifor and Eastman Hifor Clear linear low density polyethylene polymers and now offers the complete line of Tenite LDPE resins to the film industry. According to Ed Holland, M. Holland CEO and president, "The appointment by Eastman reinforces why M. Holland has a dedicated sales and technical support group solely focused on the film industry." He notes that in addition to product quality, effective distribution is becoming vital to film customers' success. "The synergy between the two companies will result in the best products and services that meet our customers' needs."

Eastman's customer focus initiative places greater emphasis on channel partners to sustain ongoing customer relationships. Critical requirements include efficient distribution systems, depth and breadth in product and market knowledge, and responsive technical support.

"We're excited about the partnership because our film customers, many of whom already know M. Holland, will benefit from their knowledgeable sales and support staff dedicated specifically to the film industry," remarks Begley. "With numerous distribution facilities throughout the U.S., M. Holland is prepared to meet the just-in-time requirements of our customers."

Polyethylene is one of Eastman's core product lines. The partnership will provide continued expansion of Eastman polyethylene brands and create new opportunities for growth in the film market.

Eastman and M. Holland have begun collaborative customer visits and expect the transition to continue through year-end.
