20-Jul-2004

Linde AG, Wiesbaden, was awarded the contract for the construction of a facility to produce Linear Alpha olefins from the Jubail United Petrochemical Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). The value of the contract for the facility to be constructed in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia is approx. US $200 million.

The project will be carried out by the Linde subsidiary Linde-KCA-Dresden GmbH, Dresden, in close cooperation with the Linde joint venture LINARCO in Riad.

"This order, which we won in the face of strong international competition, reconfirms our leading position in the growth market of olefin facilities," said Dr. Wolfgang Reitzle, President of the Executive Board of Linde AG.

The order encompasses engineering, delivery, assembly/construction and monitoring of the facility and should be completed by mid-2006. The so-called a-SABLIN process (jointly developed by SABIC and Linde) will be used during the implementation.

Linear Alpha Olefins can be reused numerous times as intermediate products in the chemical industry. They are used for the manufacture of polyethylene, synthetic lubricants, softeners and detergents, among others.
