Sigma-Aldrich Deploys Fully-Integrated B2B Commerce Interface in the USA and Europe

27-Nov-2000

ST. LOUIS--(BW HealthWire)--Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL), has successfully integrated its B2B E-commerce system with a number of enterprise procurement systems to seamlessly transact business with biotech, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemical companies in the USA and Europe to reduce purchasing costs and streamline the research process.

"This launches our B2B commerce connectivity and capitalizes on our ERP/Web integration deployed in the USA last year and just recently in Europe," Greg Soltwisch, Global Electronic Commerce Manager for Sigma-Aldrich, said. "This seamless E-commerce capability places Sigma-Aldrich in a perfect position to partner with customers pursuing B2B procurement initiatives."

Sigma-Aldrich's 200,000 products are available to researchers and purchasing agents via punch-out or similar technologies. Once the requisition is created in Sigma-Aldrich's "Pipeline" web ordering system, the transaction is passed to the customer's procurement application for approval and authorization, then sent to Sigma-Aldrich for fulfillment--all electronically as part of a seamless process.

"We have over 45 customer procurement integration projects in various stages including 3 already complete," Nick Noble, European Internet Product Manager for Sigma-Aldrich, said. "Of those 45 projects, 10 are European or global in scope. B2B is just beginning to make significant inroads in Europe. We intend to leverage our technical abilities to our customers' benefit, regardless of their geographic location."

"This is just the beginning in the United States as well," Soltwisch concludes. "These projects involve integrating our award winning E-commerce system with enterprise procurement systems including Ariba, CommerceOne, SAP and other platforms."
