PerkinElmer Launches Breakthrough FT-IR Imaging System

11-Oct-2001

The PerkinElmer Spectrum™ Spotlight 300 IR Imaging System was introduced today at the Federation of analytical chemistry and spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) conference. The Spotlight system features patented Duet™ detector technology that overcomes the limitations of traditional FT-IR imaging systems and provides scientists more complete chemical information to solve problems faster.

Spectrum Spotlight sets new standards for sensitivity, speed and flexibility making it ideal for analytical services and surface science labs who wish to complement their existing imaging techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), with a source of high-quality molecular information. Spotlight features simple set-up, fast data collection, advanced graphics and innovative technology.

"This is one of the most powerful innovations the IR market has seen in many years," said David Spaight, vice president of product management for PerkinElmer Instruments. "This product generates images with complete chemical information in minutes instead of hours. The Spotlight system is offered at a price that makes it accessible to a wider range of laboratories."

The patented Duet detector technology overcomes the traditional limitations of older FT-IR imaging systems by eliminating the need for difficult, time-consuming step-scan data collection. Operating over a wider wavelength range, the Duet detector provides state-of-the-art FT-IR microscopy capabilities and faster imaging which makes it applicable to an extended range of applications.

The Spectrum Spotlight system also includes an integrated suite of powerful software tools that enable small differences in chemical content to be easily identified, providing vital information about defects, impurities and composition from all sample types.
