ATOFINA increases its Formaldehyde and Resin capacities at its Villers-Saint-Paul site

07-Dec-2001

Atofina, the Chemical branch of the TotalFinaElf Group, has decided to invest in expanding its production of formaldehyde and Urea Formaldehyde resins at its Villers-Saint-Paul site (Oise, France).

This capital expenditure project entails building a new 60 ktpa formaldehyde plant and increasing the potential resin capacity to over 300 ktpa at Villers-Saint-Paul.

The site will thereby become one of Europe's three main resins production plants.

This decision will allow ATOFINA to raise the competitiveness of its Villers-Saint-Paul site, which boasts extensive assets:

- A comprehensive range of resins including a large volume of specialties

- Excellent access to raw materials

- Integration with melamine, a vital raw material for the manufacture of specialty resins.

Production from the site is intended for the markets of Northern France and the Benelux countries.

The Villers-Saint-Paul operations are part of ATOFINA's European production facilities for this market sector, which also include plants in Leuna, Germany, and Toulouse, France.

ATOFINA thereby intends to follow the growth of the resins market whilst consolidating its place as European co-leader in this sector.
