Laurent Godart fashions Altuglas® into his « Dady Candy » luminaire

07-Feb-2002

The acrylic sheet ALTUGLAS® was chosen by designer Laurent Godart for the manufacture of an architectural luminaire.

The luminaire, called "Dady Candy", is the result of the designer's research into the thermoplastic properties of the ALTUGLAS® material.

The ALTUGLAS® sheet material offers excellent processing properties, allowing Laurent Godart to develop an original shaping method without the need for a mould. Free of the constraints of casting in moulds and the industrial thermoforming of plastics, the craftsman can vary his design in a limited edition in terms of dimension and shape. Each object therefore becomes unique, with the appeal and added value of an individually crafted creation.

In addition, the transparent qualities of ALTUGLAS® endow this object with an intensity of light further enhanced by the skills of Laurent Godart.

The "Dady Candy" luminaire was exhibited between 10th and 14th January at the Furniture Show (Paris) and entered in the "Top Plastiques" competition organised by SPMP (Syndicat des Producteurs de Matières Plastiques - French Plastics Manufacturers Association).

Designer Laurent Godart is a graduate of ENSAD (Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs - Higher College of Arts, Crafts and Design). His post-graduate research concerned thermoplastic materials. He has been working for the agency O'Design since September 2000.

ALTUGLAS® is a registered tradename for acrylic sheet belonging to Atoglas (ATOFINA Group). Atoglas is the European leader of acrylic sheet.
