11-Mar-2002

Mitsui phenol Singapore (MPHS) Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japanese giants, Mitsui Chemicals Inc (MCI) and Mitsui & Co Ltd, will officially open South East Asia's first phenol plant on Jurong Island.

MPHS was established in April 1999 to manufacture phenol and acetone for Asia. Phenol is one of the core businesses of Mitsui Chemicals, the largest phenol supplier in Asia and the third largest producer of phenol worldwide.

With the growing demand for phenol, MPHS is expanding the plant's capacity to cater for the increase. Phenol is a principal raw material for bisphenol-A which is used in the manufacture of products such as automobile parts, equipment casing and adhesives.
