BASF raises prices for caprolactam and nylon 6

27-Mar-2002

From April 1st. BASF will raise its European prices for caprolactam by € 200 per tonne. As caprolactam is a major feedstock for Ultramid® B, prices for Ultramid B and Ultramid BS will be increased by a corresponding 15- 20%. This measure is being taken in response to higher prices for benzene.

Ultramid is the BASF tradename for nylon polymers. Ultramid B and Ultramid BS are both nylon 6s, which are based on caprolactam, itself derived from benzene by a multistage process. Ultramid B grades form the basis for moulding compounds for extruded products, including textile and industrial fibres.
