BP To Sell Polymer Films Business To Parkside Flexibles

2nd April 2002, BP Chemicals has agreed to sell its Performance Films business to Parkside Flexibles Ltd., a leading supplier of flexible packaging to consumer brands. The sale includes manufacturing plants at Darton, UK, and Zlotow, Poland, which produce flexible polymer packaging for the European food and hygiene consumer markets.
Subject to necessary approvals, the companies expect to complete the deal later this year. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The Darton plant, near Barnsley in South Yorkshire, produces polyethylene films for a wide variety of applications, and has total processing capacity of some 18,000 tonnes a year. The Zlotow site, near Pila in northwest Poland, produces a wide range of flexible packaging using several different substrates for the Polish and Northern European markets and has an annual capacity of around 3,000 tonnes. Approximately 350 staff are employed at Darton and 85 at Zlotow.
