X-ray fluorescence spectrometers:

NEX CG II Series

NEX CG II Series for Advanced Trace Element Analysis

Applied Rigaku Technologies

The Rigaku NEX CG II Series are multi-element, multi-purpose benchtop energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometers designed for rapid qualitative and quantitative elemental analysis. These systems provide non-destructive measurement of sodium (Na) through uranium (U) across a wide range of matrices, from ultra-low and trace concentrations to high weight percent levels. The series includes the NEX CG II for excellent spectral resolution and trace peak analysis and the higher-powered NEX CG II+ for more demanding applications requiring enhanced sensitivity.

NEX CG II Series spectrometers use a close-coupled three-dimensional Cartesian Geometry optical design to achieve exceptionally low detection limits. Unlike conventional direct excitation EDXRF systems, they use five secondary targets to produce monochromatic and polarized excitation. The 90° arrangement of the X-ray tube, secondary target, sample, and detector substantially reduces background interference, improving the signal-to-noise ratio in challenging matrices such as water, hydrocarbons, and biological materials. The NEX CG II combines a 50 kV, 50 W X-ray tube with a large-area silicon drift detector (SDD), while the NEX CG II+ uses a 65 kV, 100 W tube for increased excitation power and sensitivity.

Advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis is supported by Rigaku’s RPF-SQX Fundamental Parameters software. Rigaku Profile Fitting helps resolve overlapping elemental peaks, while Scattering FP accounts for unmeasurable low atomic number components in the sample matrix. This enables semi-quantitative analysis of unknown samples without standards and rigorous quantitative analysis when standards are available. Additionally, QuantEZ software provides intuitive instrument control, multilingual navigation, and guided method development for both routine operators and experienced analysts.

NEX CG II Series analyzers are well suited for environmental monitoring, industrial waste and recycled materials, agricultural soils, plant materials, animal feed, petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, catalysts, cosmetics, mining, cement, and research applications. Optional automatic sample changers support 32, 40, and 52 mm samples for higher-throughput laboratories. For aqueous samples, the Ultra Carry sample carrier can concentrate elements for measurement at parts-per-billion levels. With broad analytical capabilities, a compact footprint, and straightforward installation without external cooling systems or other specialized utilities, the NEX CG II Series supports advanced elemental analysis in commercial laboratories, industrial facilities, and R&D environments.
