Elastomeric O-ring cords are indispensable sealing elements for static applications in containers, pipe connections, fittings and pump housings. The material selection significantly determines the application area and performance of the seal.
Material diversity for specific requirements
Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) offers excellent weather and aging resistance as well as ozone resistance. These properties make EPDM O-ring cords ideal for chemical technology and plant construction, where resistance to steam, hot water, acids and alkalis is required. Special EPDM/PP compounds with stabilizing additives achieve extreme mechanical durability and can be supplied in FDA-compliant quality for pharmaceutical and food applications.
Natural rubber (NR) is characterized by exceptional elastic properties and high tear resistance. High-Pharm qualities comply with FDA and BfR regulations for medical technology applications.
Chloroprene rubber (CR) combines good elastic properties with increased flame resistance and is particularly suitable for safety-critical applications with additional requirements for aging and ozone resistance.
Fluoroelastomer (FPM) offers exceptional chemical resistance against mineral oils, acids, bases and solvents while providing excellent temperature resistance. Butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber (NBR) in various Shore hardnesses enables application-specific adaptation of mechanical properties.
High-purity solutions for regulated areas
Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) meet the highest purity requirements and are FDA and BfR compliant. Their above-average mechanical durability and temperature resistance make them ideal for pharmaceutical and food technology.
Silicone O-ring cords (VMQ) work reliably in extreme temperature ranges and show high chemical resistance against oils and hydraulic fluids. Special compounds for high-temperature applications retain their mechanical properties even under extreme conditions.
PTFE O-ring cords offer universal chemical resistance without embrittlement or swelling and adapt to uneven sealing surfaces through their formability.
