Flat gaskets form the backbone of reliable flange connections in chemical process engineering and plant construction. These static sealing elements are positioned between two flanges and activated by axial compression to ensure leak-free sealing against liquid and gaseous media.

Material Diversity for Specific Requirements

Material selection significantly determines the application limits and performance of the gasket. Acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) offers high mechanical load capacity when in contact with mineral oils and fuels, but reaches its limits with oxidizing media. Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) shows excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and polar organic solutions at temperatures from -25°C to +120°C.

Fluoroelastomer (FKM) as a high-performance material handles aggressive media such as aromatic hydrocarbons and hydraulic fluids at temperatures up to +200°C. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) enables universal applications in a temperature range from -200°C to +260°C and offers virtually universal chemical resistance.

Design Configuration According to DIN EN 1514-1

The gasket geometry follows standardized dimensions for inner and outer diameter as well as material thickness. Form IBC is suitable for smooth flanges, while Form TG is designed for tongue-and-groove connections. The symmetrical cross-section enables simple installation without special groove geometries.

Extreme Operating Conditions

Graphite flat gaskets with metal insert made from chromium-nickel steel handle extreme temperatures from -240°C to +550°C and meet TA Luft as well as DVGW requirements. Aramid gaskets combine high strength with chemical resistance for demanding industrial applications.
