06-17-2009: A new compendium bringing together key research and policy papers on biofuels has been published by IChemE (the Institution of Chemical Engineers). Commissioned by the Institution’s Energy Conversion Technology Subject Group, the Biofuels Compendium sets out policy information from a range of sources including The Stern review, The King review, the Royal Society report, Sustainable biofuels: prospects and challenges and The Gallagher review.

Biofuels came under increased scrutiny last year amidst claims first-generation biofuels were to blame for rising food prices with their production coming at the expense of growing crops for food.

“In a very short time, environmental lobbyists moved from being supportive of biofuels to a position where biofuels were not to be tolerated at any price,” says Andrew Furlong, Director of Policy at IChemE. “This compendium will assist readers navigate around this most complex of subjects and provide a mini-reference at the same time.”
