About AkzoNobel

Industrial Chemicals produces and markets salt and energy, chlor-alkali products and derivatives like monochloroacetic acid (MCA). It is Europe’s largest producer of vacuum salt and a leading supplier of chlorine, caustic lye, hydrochloric acid, metal salts, water treatment chemicals, dimethyl ether (Demeon® D) and MCA. These products are used in the chemical, detergent, construction, food, pulp and paper and plastic industries. Our products are essential in daily life and are used in the manufacture of for example vehicles, glass, performance plastics, pharmaceuticals and textiles, and in disinfectants for swimming pools. Joint ventures operated with Dutch energy companies enable AkzoNobel to make efficient use of combined heat and power (cogeneration) to assist in the production of chlorine and vacuum salt.

Industrial Chemicals has about 1,700 employees working at locations in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, the USA, China and Japan. We operate production sites in Rotterdam, Hengelo and Delfzijl (the Netherlands), Ibbenbüren, Bitterfeld and Frankfurt (Germany), Mariager (Denmark), LeMoyne (USA) and Taixing (China). Major joint ventures are: Delamine (Delfzijl) and Delesto (Delfzijl) in the Netherlands en Denak (Ohmi) in Japan. The BU's head office is located in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.

The businesses of Industrial Chemicals form a strong and integrated product chain of energy, salt, chlor-alkali, and chlorine derivates. Click on 'Integrated Business' for our integrated business model.
