DuPont™ Zytel® HTN Makes Water Pump Impellers Rugged

17-Apr-2002

Argentina-based Heliodino S.A.I.C., one of the leading manufacturers of automotive water pumps in South America, has switched from using metal to DuPont™ Zytel® HTN high- performance polyamide resin for a number of its water pump impellers.

The pump manufacturer's tests show that the injection- molded impellers made with Zytel® (shown) withstand more than 1,000 hours in standard automotive coolant at continuous service temperatures from 110 to 115 degrees Celsius, with peaks of 130 degrees Celsius.

Heliodino officials said they opted to replace the aluminum and cast iron components they were using with Zytel® because it is highly reliable and rugged enough to withstand shipping and assembly, as well as help the company save on production costs.

Applying science to fulfill human needs is part of the DuPont integrated science strategy for achieving sustainable growth.
