ALTANA's Pantoprazole is a success in the USA

he gastrointestinal medication Pantoprazole, developed by the Altana research, has positioned itself very successfully on the US market. The drug has been sold in the USA by our partner American Home Products (AHP/WA) since May 2000. American Home Products reports today, Pantoprazole - sold under brand name Protonix® in the United States - has achieved market sales of roughly 155 million euros from May to December 2000. This clearly exceeds our original sales expectations of roughly 120 million euros. The market share of Protonix® among new prescriptions of PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) has meanwhile reached 7.3 percent. Considering this outstanding development we are confident to reach our planned 2000 turnover goals for Pantoprazole. We had determined a range from 630 to 650 million euros for worldwide turnover. ALTANA will publish further information on Monday, February 5, 2001, together with its full financial figures as of December 31, 2000.
