DuPont Fluoroproducts Obtains Global Access to Patents

May 21, 2002 — DuPont Fluoroproducts has reached a patent cross-licensing agreement with Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (GLCC) concerning the use of HFC-227ea in fire protection products. The agreement grants each company the rights to the other's patents concerning the use of HFC-227ea as a fire protection agent, giving both DuPont and GLCC access to all global markets for the sale and marketing of HFC-227ea. Other terms were not disclosed.

"DuPont is pleased that, with patent coverage now clear, customers in the global fire protection industry will find it easier to include HFC 227ea in their fire extinguishant options," said Brian Engler, DuPont Fluoroproducts global business manager - fire extinguishants. "Our objective is to provide positive support to the fire protection industry in its transition away from reliance on Halon products."
