DuPont Introduces New High-Performance Elastomer

23-May-2002

May 23, 2002 — DuPont has announced the commercial availability of its new, high- performance Vamac® HVG elastomer targeting automotive hose and similar extrusion markets. The new high-viscosity product offers high "green strength," meaning the elastomer has better shape and property retention as it exits the extruder.

"Manufacturers have traditionally used DuPont™ Vamac® HG when needing extra green strength," said Mark Jacobson, North American marketing manager for Vamac®. "New Vamac® HVG targets the traditional needs of these customers, and gives them added manufacturing range and efficiency."

"Using Vamac® HVG, our customers can formulate high-performance compounds with increased filler levels and less odor," Mark continued. "The higher viscosity also enables customers to develop compounds with lower hardness than was traditionally achievable with Vamac®. In blends, Vamac® HVG can be twice as effective as Vamac® HG in increasing viscosity or green strength properties. Less does more, which can help reduce the manufacturer's raw material costs."

DuPont is manufacturing Vamac® HVG in new, state-of-the-art facilities, added as part of a five-year, USD 500 million investment in the company's ethylene copolymers business. "Vamac® is the DuPont top-of-the-line ethylene copolymer, offering outstanding resistance to automotive service fluids and rising underhood heat levels," noted Alain Baronnier, DuPont business director for Vamac®. "The company has added new compounding and packaging facilities for Vamac®, which enables us to run longer, more continuous product runs, and gives us better packaging and inventory control to serve the automotive industry."
