Arnhem, the Netherlands / Rosendahl, Germany, May 31, 2002 – Rudy van der Meer, Akzo Nobel’s Board Member responsible for coatings, today opened a new factory for powder-based building adhesives in Rosendahl, Germany. The new facility is an integral part of an ambitious business expansion plan for the company’s building adhesive activities. “Our building adhesives business, which mainly trades under the name of Schönox®, has shown a very successful development,” said Van der Meer. “An investment was vital to support further growth in this attractive market segment not only in Western, but also in Eastern Europe. The new facility now has a total capacity of 180,000 tons, an increase of 50%.” "The Rosendahl site, which is one of the most state-of-the-art factories for powder-based adhesives in Europe, produces a specialized range of tile and floor adhesives, as well as leveling compounds for customers all over Europe,” said Helmut Twilfer, Sub-Business Unit Manager Building Adhesives. “Our customers are craftsmen who prefer high quality and innovative products, and the new factory will enable us to better serve them.” As well as Schönox, Akzo Nobel’s building adhesives business also markets the Cégécol® brand in France and the Casco® brand in the Nordic countries.
