Ashland Specialty Chemical, Plasticolors form alliance to serve thermoset-composites manufacturers in transportation
The two companies are seeking additional industry opportunities and projects that may benefit from synergies created through cooperation.
"The purpose of the Ashland / Plasticolors composites alliance is to develop and provide integrated systems and technology solutions that result in superior value for our customers and companies in the thermoset-composites industry," said Scott Becker, Plasticolors’ chief operating officer.
Troy D. Wade, product manager for CPD, said, "Our immediate market-segment focus is transportation. We are combining Plasticolors’ superior color and ultraviolet stability with Ashland's thermoset and low-profile technologies to enhance value to our customers."
One result of the alliance is the development of EKADURE® 2001 resin – an ultraviolet-stable, pigmentable, non-painted, structural formula -- for exterior applications, including truck boxes.
Manufacturers who use EKADURE 2001 resin can expect to save substantial expense by eliminating paint – and the costs associated with its application – while also eliminating volatile organic compounds associated with the painting process. The new formula, which meets original-equipment manufacturers’ requirements for structural truck-box applications without using paint, could also be used for other exterior applications. The new product becomes commercially available February 2001 through Ashland.
