First dual education program for chemical industry in Shanghai
Bayer signs cooperation agreement with Shanghai Petrochemical Academy
The signing ceremony took place at the school's premises in Jinshan Town, south of Shanghai, in the presence of local authority representatives, students and teachers. Bayer has allocated one million Euro for the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory, a pilot plant and a pipe-assembly shop. These will be housed in a brand new building SPA is currently erecting on the school's campus.
Referring to the outstanding position of the Shanghai Petrochemical Academy as being one of only five key chemical vocational schools on a national level and Bayer as one of the largest multinational investors in China, Principal Guo summed up the cooperation for SPA: "I strongly believe that we can create a long-term relationship in the area of professional education in science, which will be based on initiating and implementing a series of projects under the co-operation agreement. This will serve to develop a vocational education model that keeps up with international standards, while integrating specific characteristics of our local chemical industry and labor market."
An initial 36 students will be selected to receive formal training in chemical engineering with the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge in the practical environment of the lab and the workshops. To round-out the course, the students will be required to do an internship of up to twelve weeks in Bayer's production plants currently being built at the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park in Caojing.
