BASF Coatings now sole supplier at Brazilian Fiat Iveco plant

09-Feb-2001

BASF Coatings will be the sole supplier for Fiat Iveco's Sete Lagoas plant in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. This plant was opened on November 10, 2000 by Fiat boss Paolo Cantarella and the Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso. At Sete Lagoas, Fiat Iveco, a Joint Venture between Fiat and Iveco, will be employing about 1000 people to produce the Ducato and Daily vans, with a predicted production rate of 27,000 units per year. As exclusive supplier, BASF will be providing all materials required for surface coating and will be responsible for the entire painting process on the production line with a team of several members. This contract, which was negotiated about one and a half years ago in Turin (Italy) by Paolo Prandi, the European Fiat Account Manager of BASF Coatings, marks the start of collaboration between Fiat and BASF Coatings. And already another joint step with Fiat is in the pipeline: in the course of 2001, BASF Coatings will be appointed as sole supplier to Fiat's Iveco plant in Madrid, Spain. As a 100 per cent subsidiary Iveco is Fiat's truck producing company.
